1969 BSL model 7118 Disk-Based Core Memory Expansion for pdp8

When core memory cost $5000 or more per Kbyte, a special disk system was often used for expansion of memory. This unit was used with a DEC pdp8i.

Not much is known to us about the physical drive in this unit. It is believed to consist of a single-sided disk with a number of fixed heads (one head per track or cylinder). The capacity is estimated to be about 780 KBytes, which is a fantastic amount for a pdp8. If anyone knows more about this fine piece of equipment and would like to spread such enlightenment to the unwashed but inquiring masses, please contact the site admin via the information on the top level page, bunkerofdoom.com
