6-METER COMMUNICATION.

PRC-77 and 95 amp-hour SBS-Hawker "saturated glass mat sealed lead acid battery" on 2-wheeler. It's a bit heavy, but with the whip, the signal will go much farther than 2 meter gear in the same setup, and the battery will last about a week's continuous use before needing a charge with the usual duty cycle. With a decent solar panel, use is extended indefinitely.

The PRC-77 is an extremely durable low band VHF military radio covering 30 to 75 MHz with 50KHz channel spacing. It uses a 150Hz tone squelch. Deviation is about twice than the usual 'wide' setting on a ham radio, but most 6M gear will generate enough of a 150Hz tone to talk to it. The battery is enclosed in the case at the bottom. Connections are made to a 3-way cigar lighter connector, so that other items can be plugged in. The pack in the middle can be used to store other items. This kind of rig is field expedient, breaks down to fit the trunk of the ever-popular Ford Crown Victoria, and can be improvised anywhere.
